Jackson, Mississippi — April 26, 2018 — Toyota Mississippi is investing in new production lines at its automotive manufacturing plant in Blue Springs. The project represents a $170 million corporate investment and will create 400 jobs over the next 12 months.

“For more than a decade, Toyota has been a valued corporate partner to Blue Springs and the state of Mississippi,” Governor Phil Bryant said. “Toyota’s commitment to building a sense of community is illustrated by the company’s continued investment in its operations and philanthropic efforts throughout the region. This latest investment and addition of hundreds of new jobs reinforces Toyota’s dedication to excellence in Blue Springs for generations to come.”

Toyota’s investment supports production of the 12th generation Corolla using Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). TNGA improves performance of all models, including providing more responsive handling and a more enjoyable feel while driving. It also shortens the development cycle for vehicle improvements and new vehicles. Additionally, the implementation of TNGA allows Toyota Mississippi to remain competitive in the global marketplace.

“We will be able to respond quicker and be more flexible in order to meet market demands down the road. I’m very proud of our team members’ ‘One Team’ spirit along with the partnerships we have developed across the state,” said Toyota Mississippi President Sean Suggs.

The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance in the form of statutory tax incentives.

“Hundreds of new career opportunities are being created as a result of Toyota Mississippi’s growth and faith in the region’s workforce. Each one of the people hired to support this investment will play a vital role in the continued success of the plant and the continued growth of the North Mississippi economy,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr.

This latest investment brings Toyota’s investment in the Blue Springs facility to more than $1 billion since 2007. The plant currently employs 1,500 direct workers with 2,000 workers total on site. Production of the 12th generation Corolla is slated to begin the first quarter of 2019.

Following the investment announcement, officials unveiled renderings for Toyota Mississippi’s $10 million, 15,000 square foot interactive training center.  View the article here.
