Located on Delta State’s historic quadrangle, Broom Hall is the “signature building” for the University. A total gutting and comprehensive renovation into the School of Business provides functions such as offices, classrooms, Small Business Development Center and an upgraded core housing toilets, elevator and mechanical systems. An existing 1947 annex was razed, and an expansion of the building (Keener Hall)
created lecture rooms, student lounge and computer labs.
Designated a Mississippi Landmark, the character of Broom Hall’s identity was maintained throughout the exterior façade and interior corridors by repairing historic finishes such as terrazzo flooring, cut stone and glazed terracotta. Working with the Department of Archives, the historic auditorium is converted into a multimedia classroom with the original stage serving as a projection wall behind proscenium curtains. Plaster ceiling elements are visible through glass front conference rooms flanking a new projection booth, designed to recall the entrance elements of Keener Hall.
