JBHM was commissioned to design the new Cain-Cochran Hall at Hinds Community College. The modern facility will replace Cain Hall, the 72-year-old Hinds landmark that was destroyed in a fire in March 1998.
The old building, then listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was struck by lightning. JBHM designed the facility without eliminating the few trees on the previous Cain Hall site. Improving upon the previous, a performing arts theatre was added to the plan. The building boasts a brick and cast stone exterior with high shading coefficient glazing. Terrazzo flooring is used in the main lobby and corridors.
The building operates on an energy management system. Energy efficient florescent lamps were utilized for lighting. The facility will serve the community.
