Project Description
JBHM was engaged by the City of Tupelo Parks and Recreation Dept. to conduct a feasibility study for a state of the art aquatics center to be a draw for regional swim meets. After exploring several public owned properties including 3 existing parks, Veterans Park was chosen as the most suitable location. This new aquatics center had to be carefully and thoughtfully designed so as not to diminish from the reverence of a park that pays homage to our nations veterans as well as the logistical challenge of an existing softball complex. The center was sited to take advantage of ample existing parking and give space between the sports function of the park and memorial. Additional improvements have been made to this continually expanding memorial which include; more dedicated memorial areas, a mounted F105 jet, expanded walk network, and future replica Vietnam wall.
